About |
Press releases The Joe VanDerBos Type Collection announces the release of Charminette, an unconnected script typeface. About the font: Charminette is the Collections first face with a consistent baseline and x-height. Intended as a display face to be used large, its also surprisingly readable at smaller sizes. Charminette asks to be considered for invitations to formal parties and weddings, any occasion when proper manners are called for. Or, when proper manners need to be subverted. A toast to civility! Joe VanDerBos says: "Charminette is my attempt at a contemporary script. It started as a re-interpretation of grade school cursive handwriting primers, but morphed into a flirty unconnected italic. The monoline, regular aspect of the font made the development more straightforward than my previous higgledy-piggledy faces. But also more of a challenge. I couldn't hide behind a flashy terminal or a googly blob." "This face made me fall in love with typeface design again. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do." About the type designer: Illustrator Joe VanDerBos' typefaces develop from a love of quirkiness and affection for pre-Beatles squareness. They're inspired by a passion for mid-20th century forms and optimism. Other faces in the collection include Beachbuoy, Candykitchen, and the ever-popular Retrofit family. Specimens can be found at joevanderbos.com. They can all be purchased at jvanderfont.com or Myfonts.com. |
